Dash Of Danger kept his Bobby Weiss Series record after the third preliminary round for male pacers on Monday night at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, scooting up the Pocono Pike and reducing his mark a fifth to 1:51.3 to take his $15,000 section.
The Western Ideal gelding Orillia Joe paced the fastest mile of the young 2017 season at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, 1:49.4, in taking the featured $25,000 winners-over pace on Saturday.
The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono will not feature live racing this Sunday the 16th, so that fans, workers, and horsemen may enjoy the Easter holiday with their families. But there will still be plenty of top-class racing action on the Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday cards, all of which start at 6:30 p.m.
There were three $15,000 preliminaries for trotters of both sexes in Bobby Weiss Series action at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono on Tuesday night, and a female posted the fastest time of all – the Kadabra mare Sunrise Avenue, who knocked a second off her winning time in the first round of the Weiss by triumphing Tuesday in 1:55.4.
The Napolitano brothers, Anthony and George, accounted for both divisions of the featured $16,000 trot at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, the first Monday card of the year, after the pair had both won four races at the mountain oval on Sunday night. Anthony was first to Victory Lane in the “nw 5 races” events, putting a new mark of 1:55.4 on the Muscle Mass stallion Mass Balance after rallying him from the pocket into a 57.2 half to win by a nose over the late-charging Lindylicious. Andrew Harris, who trained three of Anthony’s four winners on Sunday, also conditions the winner of $143,196 for Synerco Ventures Inc. Dash Of Danger and Highalator each took their second straight win in Bobby Weiss Series action during the second preliminary round of the $750,000 Weiss Series Sunday night at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, but it was Dakota Jack who established the speed standard for the night’s Weiss action by capturing the first race on the card, one of four $15,000 divisions for male pacers, by winning in 1:51.3.
The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono will have its first four-cards-a-week racing schedule in place this Saturday through Tuesday. This is the basic schedule to be used at the mountain oval throughout the 2017 season, with the odd exception (e.g., Easter Sunday, April 16, is dark, and there will be a doubleheader of racing cards on Kentucky Derby Saturday, May 6).
The Cantab Hall filly Hot Mess Hanover looked anything but a mess upon coming in to The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono Tuesday night, taking the fastest of the three $15,000 divisions of the first leg of the Bobby Weiss Series for trotting distaffs in 1:56.3.
The Western Terror gelding Dash Of Danger -- and his driver Matt Kakaley -- emerged with top honors during the opening night of the 2017 Bobby Weiss Series at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono on Sunday (April 2), with Dash Of Danger winning in 1:51.4 to knock a tick off his lifetime best, set last week. The Ron Burke-conditioned 4-year-old, owned by the partnership of Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi and Marc Reynolds, had to overcome the tough tuck-then-first-over trip, but he had more than enough power in the lane in winning by 2-3/4 lengths. Dash Of Danger’s driver, Matt Kakaley, was the human star of the night, as he posted six winners. He had gotten the card off to a spectacular start by reining home the longest shot on the board, Threeupthreedown, to a $119.20 payoff in the Early Double opener, then came right back with another of Burke’s three winning charges on the night, Migrate Blue Chip, to complete a very rare 9-9 Double worth $501.80. |
