Luck Be Withyou raced his 89th and final career start on Saturday night at Pocono, bringing an exceptional career to a close. The son of Western Ideal, usually handled by George Napolitano Jr. for trainer Chris Oakes and owners John Craig and Northfork Racing Stable, will now begin a new career as a stud at Maple Lane Farm, Grabil IN after earning arning nearly $1.5 million.
Luck Be Withyou will be remembered especially fondly at Pocono for:
• winning his Breeders Crown elim and final at age 2
• winning his Franklin elim and final at age 4
• taking his lifetime mark of 1:47.4 in winning his Franklin Consolation at 5
• winning in 1:50 or better each of his five racing years
And that barely scratches the surface since he also turned in impressive performances at Balmoral, Batavia, Dayton, Dover, Flamboro, Harrington, Hoosier, The Meadowlands, Mohawk, Northfields, Harrah's Philadelphia, Pompano, Saratoga, Tioga and Yonkers.
He was honored with a blanked and a well-deserved retirement ceremony in the winner's circle. Luck Be Withyou...we will miss you!
