WILKES-BARRE PA – Hungry Angel Boy, second to Horse of the Year Confederate in the Meadowlands Pace Final last season, continued his climb up the class ladder with a 1:49.3 victory in the $16,000 featured pace Tuesday afternoon at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania.
A son of Stay Hungry trained by Nicholas Devita for owners by Eric Prevost and Pit Bull Stable LLC, Hungry Angel Boy settled third in a :26.2 opening quarter; Jason Bartlett then moved the quick four-year-old outside and rushed him up to the lead, tripping the middle timer beams in :55 and 1:22.3. The winner still had a :27 last quarter in him and won by almost four lengths while remaining undefeated in three 2024 outings. His new mark was one of seven taken under ideal conditions on the 13-race card.
Jason Bartlett and Braxten Boyd tied for the day’s driving honors with three victories; Robert Baggitt Jr. and Nicholas Devita both harnessed a pair of winners.
After eleven baby qualifiers on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m., then next action at Pocono will be a 1 p.m. card on Saturday afternoon, with three-year-old colt trotters featured in Pennsylvania Sire Stakes and Pennsylvania Stallion Series contests. T C I and Security Protected, both winners in the first Sire Stakes legs, have drawn into different divisions Saturday.
Free Pocono programs will be available at www.phha.org, as will replays of the baby races.
