LEGENDARY FUNNYMAN MEL BROOKS NOT AMUSED WITH LA TIMES DECISION TO CUT HORSE RACING COVERAGE4/21/2017 Mel Brooks took to Twitter this week to lambaste the Los Angeles Times for slashing daily coverage of horse racing at Santa Anita Park. So far, his Tweet has received close to 800 retweets and over 2,500 likes. Brooks, the director of classic comedies like "Blazing Saddles," Young Frankenstein" and "Spaceballs," is well known as a passionate horse racing fan. Little wonder he was unhappy at the paper's decision to stop publishing entries and results in their print edition. But it isn't all bad news. The Times has assigned deputy sports editor John Cherwa to cover horse racing. And sports editor Angel Rodrigurez responded to Brooks with this offer: It's unclear if Brooks is aware of the offer or has responded to it. But we think it's a great idea.
